Case Study

Can full motion video be delivered over the Internet? For a long time we have said "No, we don't recommend doing it yet." We are now convinced that under certain conditions it works, and works well. It's not a do it yourself project. It takes a lot of equipment and know-how. Qwest Digital Media has the facility (in Nashville) to store and deliver recorded video over the Internet at a variety of speeds from 28.8 kbps to 400 kbps. The higher the speed the better it looks and the larger the picture can be. It is now possible to re-purpose libraries of video training tapes to add interactivity such as exercises and tests, and deliver this training via the Internet.

Another application allows live video business presentations to be delivered via the Internet. Qwest has the facilities to broadcast live video in a window beside a window containing your interactive presentation. The concept has applications in new product introductions, distance learning, and investor meetings.

xAn interesting product configurator we created recently can be seen here. Developed using Macromedia Flash 5, the configurator lets the visitor build a mobile computer cart from a wide number of options and then request a quote and print a brochure showing their choices.
